The Niagara Rapids Midget AA hockey club headed to Potsdam, NY, this weekend to participate in the North County Shootout. The ladies defeated Burlington 2-1, in a hard fought battle to open the tournament, followed by a 3-0 victory over Vaughan. Our Rapids knocked off heavily favoured Cornwall 3-2, and host OHA 4-2 to advance undefeated to the final. The Rapids fell behind 2-0 early in the final, only to battle back with four unanswered goals to defeat Detroit Honeybaked 4-2, bringing home the championship. Special teams play was a huge contributing factor to the Rapids success as was the play of goaltenders Sophie Thomas and Kaydra Corney. The coaching staff would like to acknowledge and thank the players who played through injury and illness. Congratulations Rapids MAA!
